a. Today we are going to get other work done and not work on the project. I think that this will not hurt us at all because we will definitely get it done.

b. Tomorrow, or Sunday, one of us needs to go out and buy a motor.

c. We are definitely on track with this project. In fact we are ahead in the project.

The Matrix

What strikes you about the film?

What has been really striking me about all of the movies was that almost every movie we watched made the discovery of artificial intelligence a very bad thing. In The Matrix there was a war between the humans and the robots after artificial intelligence was discovered. Eventually the humans were defeated and taken as prisoners. The robots then hooked the humans up to these pods, which gave the robots energy, like batteries. Also so that humans would not revolt the pods would make the people believe that they were in a world that we live in now, when in fact it was a basically destroyed planet with artificial intelligent robots controlling the Earth. I think that the makers of this movie did a great job portraying this bleak future because of artificial intelligence.

Brazil

What strikes you about this film?

This was probably the worst movie that I have ever seen in my life. There was basically no point to the movie. I guess you could say it was about a guy chasing after a girl, but that was only a small part of the movie. Another thing that I really didn't like about this movie was how random everything was. For example the main character finally finds the girl and starts saying that he loves her. At first she is repulsed, which is pretty realistic, but then about five minutes later she is basically in love with him. This was a very weird and random thing. I mean if I was driving a car and a girl gets in and starts saying that she loves me, looking as if she was crazy I would be freaked out. The way that the main character showed mental instability was by the way he was acting and the things he was doing. For example he lets paranoia take him over, which makes him kill policeman. The girl still falls in love with him after that. This is only one of the reasons why this is probably the worst movie I have ever seen.

Artificial Intelligence

What strikes you about the movie?

What really struck me about the movie was the monstrosity of some of the humans at the flesh festival. I was really disgusted at how cruel humans can be. Now I understand that these robots were just machines, but the way the people acted just made me feel sick. They were hooting and laughing at robots being pulled apart and melted from acid. I mean these robots may not be living but there are other ways to dismantle robots than by acting like monsters. They could just shut them down somehow or destroy them in a more civilized fashion, but no, instead they decided to act like barbaric jerks laughing at the suffering of others. Now I also know that this is just a movie, but the problem is that there are real people who actually do these types of things. For example, people watch and make dogs fight each other, feeling good at another living thing's suffering. It also happens towards other humans. This fault of humanity is something that is just not right.

Blade Runner

What strikes you about the film?

What really struck me about the film was how the robots, or the replicants, showed more emotion throughout the film than the humans did. For example, when Rachel went to Deckards house she was trying to convince him that she was not a robot. He made a couple of mean comments and she started to cry. Then later on Rachel showed fear when she felt that she and Deckard were getting too close. Now one of the humans, Dr. Eldon Tyrell, the creator of the replicant's brain, barely showed any emotion. He did not seem to care about anything. He showed no fear, happiness, or sadness throughout the whole movie. One example was when he was talking about Rachel, saying that he created her as an experiment, letting her believe she was human. Now it is true that she was a replicant, but that was a very cruel thing to do to something that was living.

Soylent Green

What strikes you about the film?

What really struck me about this movie is the fact that our society is really not that different from the society in Soylent Green. In fact the Soylent Green society seems like a real possibility if the people on this Earth continue on the course of Global Warming. This has been a problem of the world for a very long time. We have been polluting the world with no regrets. It has taken individuals to start us on the course we are on to stop polluting the Earth. I believe that people can stop Global Warming but we can not just have individuals working on it, everyone has to work on it. In Soylent Green, Global Warming became so bad that animals went extinct, fruit and vegetables became a rare treat, and people were eating these crackers that were made out of dead human flesh. The people who were eating it did not know this, but they still ate it. The people on this Earth can not let it get this bad. We must put an end to Global Warming or we are all doomed to a fate of needing to eat each other to survive.

Planet of the Apes

What strikes you about the film?

What really struck me about this film was the many lessons you could learn from the film. One lesson was that people should not kill animals for sport, which is something that I really agree with. Another lesson is that if people continue to use nuclear power for weapons it will only lead to self-destruction. I completely agree with this. With nuclear weapons people not only kill each other, but they destroy the Earth as well. A third lesson is that people should not hold prejudices against each other. At the time this film was made everything in the United States was basically integrated between black and white people, but black people were still looked down upon. In this film it shows that people are being oppressed and it shows what happens to those people. The lesson that people should take out of this is that there should be no prejudices.
